“Hot + Wet” Symposium Presentation
PRS Asia 2018, RMIT

Erik’s creative practice situated on the equator has over the past decade mined the intelligence of the period between the late 1930s and early 1970s, transformed through digital fabrication, lightweight materials, and visual affect. It has also been inflected by the spatial pressures of the rapidly densifying equatorial city where the elevation and the vertical plane become the site of architectural negotiation and contestation. The reflective research, proposed through the mediums of drawings, diagrams, photographs, and words, intends to ventilate previous and current design explorations, contextualizing and theorizing the efforts around the deep envelope and the potentials of hot air. The work plans to examine, represent and draw precedent and present work producing a representational methodology and theoretical framework for architecture in a warming and densifying equatorial reality.
